DIPLOMATIC COMMUNITY REMEMBERS THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY سفارتی برادری کی جانب سے ملک کے لیے جان قربان کرنے والوں کو خراجِ تحسین۔ اسلام آباد. اصغر علی مبارک سے By.Asghar Ali Mubarak Islamabad–The Philip Barton CMG OBE, the British High Commissioner to Pakistan, today hosted a ceremony to observe Remembrance Day 2015. Lieutenant General Imran Majeed, Surgeon General of Pakistan, and Director General Medical Services for all of Pakistan’s Armed Services attended the ceremony. The Remembrance Day service included a two minute silence, which took place at 11am on 11 November to mark the end of World War One. This was followed by the laying of wreaths by members of the diplomatic community and armed services, to remember all those who died fighting for their countries. The ceremony was officiated by the Bishop of Lahore, The Right Reverend Irfan Jamil with Hafiz Iftikhar Ahmed. Havildar Mehboob and the buglers of the Frontier Force Regiment provided the music. In his remarks, the British High Commissioner also paid tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in operation Zarb-e-Azb in Pakistan. During the Remembrance Day Service, Philip Barton, the British High Commissioner, said:“Recently, I visited the home of the Pakistan Army Regiment – the Punjab Regiment – in which my grandfather served throughout his long career in British India. I laid a wreath for the Pakistani Soldiers who have been killed on recent operations to secure their country from terror, as well as wreaths at the graves of two British Victoria Cross winners from conflicts of the past. “It is always hard to stand at the graves of young men cut down in their prime. It is right that we should remember them.“As legitimate bearers of arms, service men and women around the world have forged friendships and camaraderie that are based on the shared ideal of a common good. What marks them out from other public servants is an understanding that the pursuit of this ideal may require the ultimate sacrifice. This brotherhood of soldiers, sailors and airmen crosses divisions between nations and is often strengthened by the shared burden of danger. “The reason so many countries are in this brotherhood of arms is because we are, at root, often dedicated towards similar ends – those of peace and stability. That is what is behind the tremendous efforts and sacrifices of Pakistan’s Armed Forces on operations such as Zarb-e Azb.“Shortly, we shall be laying our own wreaths, country by country, and reflecting on this service and sacrifice. As we do so, let us remember all those brave members of the military around the world in harms’ way today, as well as all those who have fallen before them.”In March this year, the British High Commissioner unveiled a memorial plaque at the British High Commission in honor of Khudadad Khan, the first South Asian and Muslim recipient of Britain’s highest military award, the Victoria Cross. Pakistani squash star Nasir Iqbal beat American Todd Hamity in the final of Serena Hotels President Gold Cup International Squash Championship 2015. The Final Match of the President Gold Cup International Squash Championship sponsored by Serena Hotels took place at the Mushaf Squash Complex. The Championship is hosted under the banner of the Serena Hotels Sports Diplomacy Initiative. The final was a totally one sided contest between Nasir Iqbal and Todd Harrity. Nasir Iqbal won the match in straight games 3-0.The Pakistani rising squash star Nasir Iqbal dominated from the beginning and won the first game easily with the game score 11/7. He consolidated his grip on the match by winning the second game with the game score 11/8. The third game was also won by Nasir with the game score 11/5, earning him the championship trophy. The two finalists were awarded prizes by the President of Pakistan, H.E. Mamnoon Hussain. The Chief of Air Staff, Air vice Marshal Sohail Aman and CEO Serena Hotels, Mr. Aziz Boolani were also present on the occasion. The President Islamic Republic of Pakistan Mr. Mamnoon Hussain awarded trophies to the players. Former World Champions Mr. Jahangir Khan, Mr. Qamar Zaman, Mr. Jansher Khan and Mr. Mohib Ullah also witnessed the match. Foreign diplomats, civil and military officials along with a large number of squash lovers witnessed the match. After the game, Mr. Aziz Boolani reinstated Serena Hotels’ commitment to promoting Sports amongst the youth of Pakistan. Serena Hotels currently also host the annual President of Pakistan Gold Medal Golf Championship and annual Polo, Cricket and invitational Golf tournaments.

Pakistani rising squash star Nasir Iqbal won the Serena Hotels President Gold Cup International Squash Championship, 2015 ■Nasir Iqbal beat American Todd Hamity in the final match in straight games 3-0 By.Asghar Ali Mubarak Islamabad – The Pakistani rising squash star Nasir Iqbal won the Serena Hotels President Gold Cup International Squash Championship, 2015 played at Mushaf Squash Complex, Islamabad. Pakistani squash star Nasir Iqbal beat American Todd Hamity in the final of Serena Hotels President Gold Cup International Squash Championship 2015. The Final Match of the President Gold Cup International Squash Championship sponsored by Serena Hotels took place at the Mushaf Squash Complex. The Championship is hosted under the banner of the Serena Hotels Sports Diplomacy Initiative. The final was a totally one sided contest between Nasir Iqbal and Todd Harrity. Nasir Iqbal won the match in straight games 3-0.The Pakistani rising squash star Nasir Iqbal dominated from the beginning and won the first game easily with the game score 11/7. He consolidated his grip on the match by winning the second game with the game score 11/8. The third game was also won by Nasir with the game score 11/5, earning him the championship trophy. The match lasted for 25 minutes. The Sports Diplomacy Initiative aims to promote healthy interaction amongst various communities. Under its banner, Serena Hotels, in collaboration with the Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) are attempting to revive Pakistan’s Squash Legacy. Pakistan has historically excelled at Squash, with legends such as Qamar Zaman, Jehangir Khan, Jansher Khan, Hashim Khan, Roshan Khan, Torsam Khan, Gogi Alauddin still renowned world over today. The Serena Hotels and the PSF also hosted the Serena Hotels – Chief of the Air Staff International Squash Championship in October 2015 to further the aim of reviving Pakistan’s Squash legacy. In fact, it was clear that Pakistan was making a comeback in the field of Squash during the game. Mr. Nasir Iqbal (Pak) was up against Mr. Todd Harrity (USA) in what ended up being a riveting final match. The crowd was clearly cheering on the home favorite, Mr. Iqbal, who had previously created a major upset in the game during the semi finals by defeating Mr. Omar Abdel Meguid, the Champion of the 2014 Serena Hotels –Chief of the Air Staff International Squash Championship. After a heated match, Mr.Nasir Iqbal from Pakistan emerged victorious, a great testament to Serena Hotels efforts in reviving the legacy of squash during the past few years.
