The renowned Pakistani female tennis player Sarah Mahboob added yet another feather to her cap with clinching Subh-e-nau Ladies National Tennis Tournament title which concluded on Thursday evening here at PSB Tennis Courts. Sarah Mahboob is a veteran ladies player serving Pakistan on different levels for many years. She defeated her opponent Sara Mansoor in a well fought Ladies Singles final which swung both ways and spectators enjoyed the play between two seasoned players. Sarah Mahboob won the title match with 6-3 and 6-3 score line. She received rupees 50 thousand as prize money with memento and certificate. Ladies Singles Runner-Up Sara Mansoor received 30 thousand rupees as prize money with memento and certificate.
Earlier in Media Singles Final, Arif Mehmood of K2 TV won the title after beating Afzal Mahmood of BOL TV in a well contested match. Winner of this category received 15 thousand rupees as prize money while his runner up player was awarded with 9 thousand rupees. In Girls U-10 final, Zainab Ali Raja beat Esha Zia in straight sets. Pair of Sarah Mahboob and Meheq Khokhar were crowned Ladies Doubles Title as they overpowered pair of Sara Mansoor & Mahvish Chishtie in a thrilling encounter. Both the pairs shown their experience, however, victory belonged to Sarah and Meheq for their better play.
Sheeza Sajid won Girls U-14 category title after a good contest against Fatima Ali in title match. Both players played well in first set which finished in favor of Sheeza with 7-5 while she won second set at 6-0.
Dr. Fehmida Mirza, Federal Minister for Interprovincial Coordination (IPC) was the Chief Guest during prize Distribution Ceremony held after Ladies Singles final. She distributed shields certificates and mementoes among players. Dr. Fehmida Mirza appreciated Subh-e-Nau for holding exclusive Ladies Tennis event and said that she was impressed with SN bearing the flag of women tennis in Pakistan. She said that sports are essential for everyone especially for females and we need to promote women sports through all means of media and sponsorship. She said that she we need to build infrastructure for sports and revive our sports culture. Chairperson Subh-e-nau Shahida Kausar Farooq thanked Chief Guest, Players, Officials and Sponsors for this successful event. She said that we need more sponsors to continue our efforts. After the Closing Ceremony, Federal Minister Dr. Fehmida Mirza planted a citrus tree with players and officials. Mr. Taimur Shah, Head Public Sector Deposit North Bank of Punjab, Mr. Humayun Saifullah and others also attended the closing ceremony.
