..(اصغر علی مبارک ) . ….پاکستان مسلم امہ کی مدد سے مشرق وسطیٰ کاحالیہ بحران حل کرانےکے لیے پر امید ہے۔وزیراعظم پاکستان شہباز شریف کی حکومت ایران جنگ رکوانے کی ہر ممکن کوششیں کر رہی ہے,‘ایران کو یہ پیغام دیا گیا ہے کہ وہ مذاکرات کا راستہ اختیار کرے اور ردعمل سے گریز کرے تاکہ جنگ کا دائرہ وسیع نہ ہومشرق وسطیٰ جنگ کے دورانِ وزیراعظم پاکستان کامدبرانِہ کردار سامنے آیٰا, شہباز شریف نِے مختلف سربراہانِ مملکت سے رابطےکیٰے دوسری جانب وزیراعظم شہباز شریف نے عالمی صورتحال پر پارلیمانی لیڈرز کا اجلاس آج طلب کرلیاہے۔وزیر اعظم شہباز شریف نے ہفتے کے روز متعدد خلیجی رہنماؤں سے بات کرتے ہوئے ایران پر امریکی اور اسرائیلی حملوں اور علاقائی اڈوں پر تہران کے جوابی حملوں کے بعد مشرق وسطیٰ کے بڑھتے ہوئے بحران کے درمیان امن کے فروغ میں پاکستان کے تعمیری کردار کی پیشکش کی ہے۔وزیر اعظم نے ایکس پر شیئر کیے گئے ایک بیان میں کہا ہے کہ ” میں نے آج شام اپنے پیارے بھائی ایچ آر ایچ ولی عہد شہزادہ محمد بن سلمان سے بات کی تاکہ ایران پر اسرائیلی حملے اور اس کے نتیجے میں خلیجی خطے میں حملوں کے بعد خطرناک علاقائی کشیدگی پر پاکستان کی شدید مذمت کا اظہار کیا جا سکے۔“انہوں نے کہا کہ ” پاکستان اس مشکل وقت میں سعودی عرب اور ہمارے برادر خلیجی ممالک کے ساتھ مکمل یکجہتی کے ساتھ کھڑا ہے، ہم امن کے لیے تعمیری کردار ادا کرنے کے لیے تیار ہیں اور دعا کرتے ہیں کہ رمضان کی برکتیں ہمارے خطے میں امن اور استحکام لائے“۔وزیراعظم نے ابوظہبی پر میزائل حملے میں پاکستانی شہری کی المناک موت پر دکھ کا اظہار کیا ہے۔انہوں نے متحدہ عرب امارات کی قیادت کو موجودہ بحران میں پاکستان کی یکجہتی اور حمایت کا یقین دلایا اور کہا کہ پاکستان ” ہمیشہ اپنے اماراتی بھائیوں اور بہنوں کے ساتھ کھڑا رہے گا، دونوں ممالک کے درمیان قریبی برادرانہ تعلقات کے مطابق، جو وقت کی آزمائش کا مقابلہ کر چکے ہیں“۔دریں اثناء وزیر اعظم نے قطر کی ریاست کے امیر شیخ تمیم بن حمد الثانی سے بھی بات کی۔
وزیر اعظم نے ایران پر اسرائیلی حملے سے خطے میں سنگین کشیدگی کی شدید مذمت کی، جس کے بعد قطر کے ساتھ ساتھ دیگر خلیجی ممالک میں بھی افسوسناک حملے کیے گئے۔وزیراعظم شہباز شریف نے متحدہ عرب امارات کے صدر اور ابوظہبی کے حکمران شیخ محمد بن زاید النہیان سے ٹیلی فون پر بات چیت بھی کی۔وزیر خارجہ اسحاق ڈار نے ذرائع ابلاغ کے نمائندوں کو بتایا کہ جونہی حملہ ہوا، انہوں نے فوری طور پر ایرانی وزیر خارجہ عباس عراقچی سے رابطہ کیا اور گزشتہ تین دنوں میں فلسطین، ایران، سعودی عرب، بنگلہ دیش، مالدیپ، عمان، متحدہ عرب امارات، عراق، بحرین اور آذربائیجان کے وزرائے خارجہ سے بات چیت کی۔ انہوں نے بتایا کہ ’وزیراعظم شہباز شریف نے بھی مختلف سربراہانِ مملکت سے رابطے کیے تاکہ کشیدگی کم کی جا سکے۔مشرق وسطیٰ میں جنگ روکنے کے لیے پاکستان کے موثر اور متوازن کردار کو دنیا بھر میں سراہا جا رہا ہے خاص طور پر وزیر اعظم پاکستان ذاتی طور پر اس حوالے سے دلچسپی لے رہے ہیں، عالمی میڈیا پہلے ہی پاکستان کے مثبت کردار کا اظہار کر چکا ہے حتیٰ کہ اقوام متحدہ میں ایران کے سفیر نے بھی اعتراف کیا ہے کہ پاکستان صرف ایک مسلم ملک ہے جس نے اپنا کردار ادا کیا۔ اقوام متحدہ میں ایران کے مستقل مندوب امیر سعید ایروانی نے حال ہی میں ہونے والے سلامتی کونسل کے ہنگامی اجلاس میں پاکستان، چین اور روس کا خاص طور پر شکریہ ادا کیا ہے ایرانی سفیر نے اقوام متحدہ میں ایران کے خلاف ہونے والی حالیہ جارحیت پر پاکستان کے “اصولی اور آزادانہ” مؤقف کو سراہا۔ سوشل میڈیا اور مختلف خبر رساں ذرائع کے مطابق، ایران نے پاکستان کو وہ واحد مسلم ملک قرار دیا جس نے عالمی فورم پر امریکی اور اسرائیلی حملوں کے خلاف کھل کر آواز بلند کی اور ایران کے حقِ دفاع کی حمایت کی۔
اقوام متحدہ میں پاکستان کے مستقل مندوب عاصم افتخار احمد نے سلامتی کونسل کے اجلاس میں ایران پر ہونے والے حملوں کی شدید مذمت کی اور اسے بین الاقوامی قوانین کی خلاف ورزی قرار دیا۔ پاکستان میں ایران کے سفیر رضا امیری مقدم نے بھی پاکستانی حکومت، عوام اور میڈیا کے کردار کو قابلِ تحسین قرار دیتے ہوئے کہا کہ ایران اس مشکل وقت میں پاکستان کی سفارتی اور اخلاقی حمایت کو ہمیشہ یاد رکھے گااس سفارتی حمایت نے موجودہ علاقائی کشیدگی کے دوران پاک-ایران تعلقات میں مزید مضبوطی پیدا کی ہےپاکستان میں ایران کے سفیر رضا امیری مقدم نے کہا ہے کہ ہم دوستوں کا تو چناؤ کر سکتے ہیں لیکن ہمسایوں کا نہیں، پاکستان اور ایران دو برادر ہمسایہ ممالک ہیں۔ خطے میں تبدیلیوں کے نتیجے میں پاکستان اور ایران مزید قریب آئے دوسری جانب23 سال بعد جب ایک امریکی صدر نے حکومت کی تبدیلی کے تعاقب میں ایک خودمختار ریاست کے خلاف امریکی فوجی طاقت کا بھرپور استعمال کیا تھا جس نے مشرقِ وسطیٰ کو دہائیوں تک افراتفری اور خونریزی میں دھکیل دیا، وائٹ ہاؤس کے ایک اور مکین نے اسی خطرناک راستے پر چلنے کا انتخاب کیا ہے۔28 فروری کو ایران پر امریکہ اور اسرائیل کے مشترکہ حملوں کے آغاز کے ساتھ ہی، جس کے نتیجے میں ملک کے سپریم لیڈر آیت اللہ علی خامنہ ای کی ٹارگٹڈ شہادت ہوئی، ڈونلڈ ٹرمپ نے عملی طور پر امریکہ کی دائمی جنگوں کو ختم کرنے کے اپنے دیرینہ دعووں کو ترک کردیا ہے۔ وہ واضح طور پر اس بات کو سمجھنے میں ناکام رہے ہیں، بالکل ویسے ہی جیسے ان سے پہلے 2003 میں عراق پر حملے کے وقت جارج ڈبلیو بش ناکام رہے تھے کہ حکومت کی تبدیلی کے منصوبے اپنے اندر فطری طور پر انتہائی گہری اور دور رس تباہیاں چھپائے ہوئے ہوتے ہیں۔ایران پر حملے اور خامنہ ای کی شہادت نے پہلے ہی اشتعال انگیزی کے ایک خطرناک سلسلے کو جنم دے دیا ہے، جس کے جواب میں تہران نے قطر، متحدہ عرب امارات اور سعودی عرب سمیت خلیجی ممالک میں موجود امریکی تنصیبات پر جوابی کارروائی کی ہے، جس سے علاقائی عدم استحکام اور غیر یقینی صورتحال مزید بڑھ گئی ہے۔گزشتہ دو دہائیوں کے تجربے نے حقیقت میں یہ بار بار ثابت کیا کہ باہر سے مسلط کردہ حکومت کی تبدیلی کی کوششوں نے صرف عسکریت پسندی اور دہشت گردی کو ہوا دی، معیشتوں کو تباہ کیا اور پہلے سے کمزور معاشروں کو مزید تقسیم کردیا جس کے نتیجے میں لاکھوں لوگ طویل المدتی نقل مکانی، عدم تحفظ اور بنیادی گزر بسر کے ذرائع چھین لیے جانے جیسے حالات کا سامنا کرنے پر مجبور ہوئے، اس سے بھی بدتر بات یہ ہے کہ اس کے اثرات کبھی بھی قومی سرحدوں تک محدود نہیں رہتے۔ اس طرح کے انقلابات اور اتھل پتھل کے اثرات لہروں کی طرح واضح طور پر پھیلتے ہیں جو پڑوسی ریاستوں کو غیر مستحکم کرتے ہیں اور پورے خطوں کو افراتفری، عدم استحکام اور معاشی بدحالی کی دلدل میں دھکیل دیتے ہیں۔اور جیسا کہ اب تک کے واقعات سے ثابت ہو چکا ہے، یہی پرانا سلسلہ یہاں بھی دہرایا جا رہا ہے۔ نہ صرف خلیجی ریاستیں تصادم کے پھیلتے ہوئے دائرے کی زد میں آ گئی ہیں جس نے دہائیوں میں پہلی بار ان کے طویل مدتی استحکام کو آزمائش میں ڈال دیا ہے بلکہ اس کے اثرات براہِ راست ملحقہ جغرافیائی خطوں میں بھی پھیلنے کے لیے تیار ہیں۔ کسی موڑ پر، اس کھنچاؤ اور دباؤ کے اثرات پاک ایران سرحد پر بھی محسوس ہونا شروع ہو سکتے ہیں اور وہاں ہونے والی کوئی بھی پیش رفت بلوچستان کی پہلے سے ہی غیر مستحکم سکیورٹی صورتحال اور افغانستان کے ساتھ ملحقہ سرحدی علاقوں کے معاملات سے جڑسکتی ہے، جہاں ایران کے اندرونی واقعات ان نازک حالات کو مزید بگاڑ سکتے ہیں، ان معاملات کو مزید سنگین تہران کا آبنائے ہرمز کو بند کرنے کا فیصلہ بنا رہا ہے، جو کہ ایک ایسی اہم ترین شہ رگ ہے جہاں سے دنیا کی تیل کی سپلائی کا تقریباً پانچواں حصہ گزرتا ہے۔ تہران کا یہ قدم عالمی معیشت کے لیے دور رس اور دیرپا نتائج کا حامل ہوسکتا ہے کیونکہ تیل کی قیمتوں میں اچانک اضافہ ہو رہا ہے اور توانائی کی عالمی منڈیاں اس شدید جھٹکے کی زد میں ہیں۔یہ بات واضح کرنا ضروری ہے کہ ایک خود مختار ملک پر حملے، اور اس کے سپریم لیڈر اور دیگر اعلیٰ قیادت کے قتل کے لیے جو جواز پیش کیے جا رہے ہیں، انہیں بین الاقوامی قانون کے مسلمہ اصولوں کے ساتھ کسی صورت ہم آہنگ نہیں کیا جا سکتا۔ اقوام متحدہ کے چارٹر کے تحت، پیشگی فوجی طاقت کا استعمال صرف کسی فوری خطرے کے جواب میں یا سلامتی کونسل کی واضح اجازت کے ساتھ ہی جائز ہے اور اس معاملے میں یہ شرائط واضح طور پر پوری نہیں کی گئیں۔ مزید برآں صدر ٹرمپ کے یہ دعوے کہ ایران ایٹمی ہتھیار بنانے پر تلا ہوا ہے، وہ بھی کسی ٹھوس جانچ پڑتال پر پورے نہیں اترتے۔ جیسا کہ عمان کے وزیر خارجہ نے واضح کیا تھا کہ امریکہ کے ساتھ حالیہ مذاکرات کے دوران اس سے پہلے کہ اس بے مقصد اشتعال انگیزی نے انہیں سبوتاژ (تباہ) کر دیا، تہران اس بات پر راضی ہو گیا تھا کہ وہ کبھی بھی افزودہ یورینیم کا ذخیرہ نہیں کرے گا۔ اگر قانونی اور حقائق پر مبنی جواز کو ہٹا کر دیکھا جائے تو یہ امریکی-اسرائیلی کارروائی طاقت کے کھلے اظہار کے سوا کچھ نہیں ہے۔ یہ اپنی پسند کی مسلط کردہ جنگ ہے جس میں حق کی جگہ طاقت نے لے لی ہے اور فوجی قوت کا ایسا استعمال کیا گیا جو ان تمام قانونی اور اخلاقی پابندیوں سے آزاد ہے جو اسے منظم کرنے کے لیے بنائی گئی تھیں۔یہ بات تیزی سے واضح ہوتی جارہی ہے کہ خامنہ ای کی شہارت ایرانی ریاست کے لیے ایک گہرا بگاڑ یا بہت بڑی رکاوٹ ہے، اور یہ ایسے وقت میں ہوا ہے جب ملک پہلے ہی دہائیوں کی معاشی مشکلات اور جبر کے نتیجے میں پیدا ہونے والے پُرتشدد حکومت مخالف احتجاجی مظاہروں کا گواہ بن چکا تھا۔ سب سے بڑا المیہ یہ ہے کہ اس افراتفری اور مصائب کے درمیان ایرانی عوام ہی وہ طبقہ ہیں جو سب سے زیادہ بوجھ اٹھائیں گے۔ ان کے لیے افق پر امید کی کوئی کرن دکھائی نہیں دے رہی، اور ان کا مستقبل غیر یقینی صورتحال، محرومی اور عدم تحفظ کی لپیٹ میں نظر آتا ہے۔ کہنا ہے کہ ایران ایٹمی ہتھیار نہ بنانے پر متفق ہو گیا تھا، جوہری مذاکرات میں مثبت پیشرفت کے باوجود ایران پر حملہ کیا گیا، ایران پر حملہ ہوا تو پاکستان نے کھل کر اس کی مذمت کی۔۔اس سے قبل اسحاق ڈار نے ایوان بالا (سینٹ) میں اپنے خطاب میں کہا کہ ہم فرض سمجھ کر ایران جنگ رکوانے کی سفارتی کوشش کر رہے ہیں۔ ان کا کہنا تھا کہ ’پاکستانی عوام کو بھی اس بات کو سمجھنا چاہیے۔ اپنے ملک میں حالات خراب کرنے سے کچھ نہیں ہو گاان کا کہنا تھا کہ ’ہم فلسطینی کے لیے دو ریاستی حل کے اپنے موقف پر قائم ہیں۔ فلسطین کے معاملے کا خلیج میں جاری حالیہ کشیدگی سے کوئی تعلق نہیں ہے۔‘
’ہم ہر طرح کی معاونت کے لیے تیار ہیں۔ ہم نے اس سے قبل بھی امریکہ اور ایران کو ثالثی کا اشارہ دیا تھا۔ ہم یہ چاہتے ہیں تو فریقین آپس میں بات کریں چاہے وہ اسلام آباد میں کریں یا کسی اور ملک میں کریں۔ ہم چاہتے ہیں کہ کشیدگی کسی طرح کم ہو۔‘ کہا کہ ’ایران میں رجیم چینج ہمارا ایجنڈا تھا نہ ہے۔ یہ ایرانی بہن بھائیوں کا اختیار ہے کہ وہ اپنے ملک کی قیادت کسے دیتے ہیں۔ ہمیں ہمسایہ ہونے ناتے اپنی ذمہ داری نبھانی چاہیے۔‘

سینیٹ اجلاس میں اظہار خیال کرتے ہوئے وزیر خارجہ سینیٹر اسحاق ڈار نے امریکا اور اسرائیل کی جانب سے ایران پر حملے اور ایران کے مختلف ممالک پر جوابی حملوں کے بعد پیدا ہونے والی صورتحال پر پالیسی بیان دیا۔

اسحاق ڈار نے کہا کہ ایران کو سعودی عرب کی سرزمین حملوں کےلیے استعمال نہ ہونے کی یقین دہانی پاکستان نے لےکر دی ، ایران کے معاملے پر پاکستان کی پُرخلوص سفارتی کوششوں کو ملک کے اندر غلط رنگ دینا مناسب نہیں۔ اسحاق ڈار نے ایوان کو بتایا کہ پاکستان کی کوششوں کے بارے میں ایرانی قیادت بخوبی آگاہ ہے، جب پاکستان کے پاس سلامتی کونسل کی صدارت تھی اس وقت بھی ہم نے امریکا اور ایران کے مسئلے پر کئی مباحثے کرائے۔ بتایا کہ امریکا اور ایران کے درمیان مذاکرات کا عمل کامیابی سے چل رہا تھا جس میں عمان ثالث کا کردار ادا کر رہا تھا، بڑے پُرامید تھے کہ ایران مذاکرات مثبت جا رہے ہیں، اسی دوران ایران پر گزشتہ سال جون کی طرح کا حملہ ہو گیا۔ کہنا تھا میری امریکی وزیر خارجہ مارکو روبیو سے بھی ملاقات ہوئی، ایران ایٹمی ہتھیار نہ بنانے پر متفق ہو گیا تھا، پاکستان نے جوہری توانائی کے پُرامن استعمال سے متعلق ایران کے حق کی حمایت کی، امریکا ایران کے تمام ایٹمی پروگرام کو مکمل ختم کرنا چاہتا تھا جبکہ ہم نے ایران کو پُرامن ایٹمی پروگرام جاری رکھنے کی بات منوائی۔ کہنا تھا ہم امریکا اور ایران کے درمیان اسلام آباد میں ثالثی کےلیے تیار تھے، دنیا میں صرف پاکستان نے ہی ایران کے خلاف حملے کی کھلے انداز میں مذمت کی، ہمارے مؤقف کی ہی وجہ سے ہی ایرانی پارلیمنٹ کے اندر تشکر پاکستان کے نعرے لگے، سلامتی کونسل میں پاکستان نے واضح الفاظ میں ایران پر حملے کی مذمت کی، معاملے کی سفارتی سطح پر حل کی ضرورت پر زور دیا ہے وزیر خارجہ نے کہا کہ امریکا و اسرائیل کی جانب سے حملے کے جواب میں ایران نے خلیجی ممالک پر حملہ کر دیا، ایران نے کہا کہ امریکا کی بیسز پر حملہ کر رہے ہیں، وہاں ایئر پورٹس ہٹ کیے گیے، ہمیں اس تنازع میں نہیں پڑنا چاہیے، ان ممالک پر حملہ نہ ہوتا تو ہم امریکا اور اسرائیل کے حوالے سے ان کو ساتھ لیکر آواز بلند کرتے، ہمیں معلوم ہے کہ مزاحمت ہوتی ہے لیکن ہم نے 15 منٹ میں مذمت کی۔ سینیٹ اجلاس میں اسحاق ڈار کا کہنا تھا 12 سال بعد اقوام متحدہ سلامتی کونسل میں اتفاق رائے سے قرارداد پاس کی گئی، حکومت کی طرف سے مذاکرات کی کوشش میں کوئی کمی نہیں، ہم پوری طرح آن بورڈ ہیں، میں اور ایرانی وزیر خارجہ عباس عراقچی براہ راست رابطے میں ہیں، ہمیں رابطے کے لیے دفتر خارجہ کی ضرورت نہیں۔ کہنا تھا سلامتی کونسل میں قرارداد کے ساتھ کھڑے ہوئے جس میں ایران سے پابندی ہٹانے کا کہا، ایران کی پارلیمنٹ میں تشکر پاکستان کہا گیا، ہم نے 28 فروری کو سکیورٹی کونسل کا ہنگامی اجلاس کرایا، ہم اپنی سکیورٹی کونسل ممبر شپ کا تو فائدہ اٹھائیں، ہم نے وہاں ایران پر حملے کی مذمت کی، عرب ممالک کے ساتھ ایران کے ساتھ اظہار یکجہتی کی، سب کو کہا تحمل کا مظاہرہ کریں، بین الاقوامی امن و امان کمزور ہو رہا ہے، دو تین دن میں جو ہوا وہ نہیں ہونا چاہیے۔وفاقی وزیرِ دفاع خواجہ آصف نے مشرقِ وسطیٰ میں بڑھتے ہوئے تنازع کے حوالے سے سخت وارننگ جاری کرتے ہوئے صیہونیت کوانسانیت کے لیے خطرہ قرار دیا اور الزام عائد کیا ہے کہ اسرائیلی اثرورسوخ کو پاکستان کی سرحدوں تک پھیلا کر ملک کو غیر مستحکم کرنے کا ایک مربوط ایجنڈا موجود ہے۔اپنے سوشل میڈیا اکاؤنٹ پر جاری ایک بیان میں انہوں نے کہا کہ ایران کے خلاف جنگ کے ایجنڈے میں اسرائیل کے اثرورسوخ کو پاکستان کی دہلیز تک لانا شامل ہے۔اپنے موقف کی وضاحت کرتے ہوئے وفاقی وزیر نے کہا کہ صیہونی نظریے نے ایک صدی سے دنیا کے معاشی نظاموں اور بڑی طاقتوں کو یرغمال بنا رکھا ہے۔ انہوں نے اسرائیل کے قیام کے بعد سے عالمِ اسلام میں رونما ہونے والی ہر بڑی تباہی کو اسی اثرورسوخ سے جوڑا۔وفاقی وزیر نے کہا کہ صیہونیت انسانیت کے لیے ایک خطرہ ہے۔ فلسطین کی سرزمین پر اسرائیل کے قیام سے لے کر آج تک عالمِ اسلام پر جو بھی مصیبت ٹوٹی یا جو بھی جنگ مسلط کی گئی، اس کے پیچھے براہِ راست یا بالواسطہ صیہونی نظریے اور ریاست کا ہاتھ دکھائی دے گا۔ صیہونیت ایک صدی سے دنیا کے معاشی نظام کو کنٹرول کررہی ہے اور عالمی طاقتیں صیہونیت کے ہاتھوں یرغمال بنی ہوئی ہیں۔علاقائی بحران پر بات کرتے ہوئے وزیرِ دفاع نے دعویٰ کیا کہ تہران کی جانب سے سفارتی معاہدے پر آمادگی کے باوجود ایران پر مسلط کی جانے والی جنگ، دراصل صیہونی سرپرستی میں تیار کردہ اس وسیع تر منصوبے کا حصہ ہے جس کا مقصد پاکستان کی خود مختاری کو نقصان پہنچانا ہے۔ہ موجودہ کشیدگی کا مقصد پڑوسی ممالک کو شامل کر کے سنگل پوائنٹ ایجنڈا قائم کرنا ہے تاکہ پاکستان کی تمام سرحدوں پر دشمنی کا ماحول پیدا کیا جاسکے۔خواجہ آصف نے خبردار کیا کہ اس سازش کا حتمی مقصد پاکستان کی سلامتی پر سمجھوتہ کرنا اور ملک کو ایک ماتحت ریاست بنانا ہے۔ مزید کہا کہ ایران کی جانب سے معاہدے پر آمادگی کے انقلاب کے سربراہ اور وزیر دفاع سمیت تقریباً 40 اعلیٰ حکام ہلاک ہوئے۔

The Prime Minister expressed grief over the tragic death of a Pakistani citizen in a missile attack on Abu Dhabi. He assured the leadership of the UAE of Pakistan’s solidarity and support in the current crisis and said that Pakistan “will always stand by our Emirati brothers and sisters, in line with the close brotherly relations between the two countries, which have stood the test of time.” Meanwhile, the Prime Minister also spoke to the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The Prime Minister strongly condemned the serious tension in the region caused by the Israeli attack on Iran, which was followed by regrettable attacks on Qatar as well as other Gulf countries. The effects of such revolutions and upheavals clearly spread like ripples that destabilize neighboring states and plunge entire regions into chaos, instability, and economic ruin. And as events have shown so far, the same old cycle is being repeated here. Not only have the Gulf states been caught in a widening circle of conflict that has tested their long-term stability for the first time in decades, but their effects are also poised to spill over into directly adjacent geographic regions. At some point, the effects of this tension and pressure may also start to be felt on the Pak-Iran border, and any developments there could be linked to the already unstable security situation in Balochistan and the border areas adjacent to Afghanistan, where internal events in Iran could further aggravate these delicate situations, made even more serious by Tehran’s decision to close the Strait of Hormuz, a vital artery through which about a fifth of the world’s oil supply passes. This move by Tehran could have far-reaching and lasting consequences for the global economy, as oil prices are suddenly rising and global energy markets are being shaken. Furthermore, President Trump’s claims that Iran is bent on building nuclear weapons also do not stand up to any substantive scrutiny. As Oman’s foreign minister made clear, during recent talks with the US, before this pointless provocation sabotaged them, Tehran had agreed never to stockpile enriched uranium. If legal and factual justifications are removed, this US-Israeli action is nothing more than a blatant display of force. This is a war of its own making, in which power has replaced truth and military force has been used in a way that is free from all the legal and moral constraints that were designed to regulate it. It is increasingly clear that Khamenei’s popularity is a profound distortion or a major obstacle to the Iranian state, and this comes at a time when the country has already witnessed violent anti-government protests resulting from decades of economic hardship and repression. The greatest tragedy is that in the midst of this chaos and suffering, the Iranian people are the ones who will bear the brunt. For them, there is no ray of hope on the horizon, and their future seems shrouded in uncertainty, deprivation, and insecurity. It is said that Iran had agreed not to build nuclear weapons.
