Media can play a vital role for the promotion of sports in Pakistan .MrMuhammad Shahid Deputy Director General PSB

A group of senior sports journalists from Punjab headed by senior sports journalist SUFI HAROON ,ASGHAR ALI MUBARAK and others visited the Pakistan sports board Islamabad and discussed the various issues with PSB official regarding the role of media in sports in connection with upcoming international Olympic day celebrating worldwide on 07-06-2015.Meeting with Mr,Muhammad Shahid Deputy Director General briefed the media men about the Pakistan Sports Board role for the promotion of sports in Pakistan .He said that under the leader ship of Dr Akhtar Nawaz we are trying to promote the sports culture in Pakistan. Mr,Muhammad Shahid Deputy Director General told the media that Pakistan Sports Board being the supreme body of sports monitors the activities/affairs of National Sports Federations affiliated to it and ensure proper utilization of annual and special grants given by the Board. The annual grants are released to the National Federations to meet their day to day expenses whereas special grants are meant for participation and holding of international sports events. These grants are allocated /approved by the Executive Committee of Pakistan Sports Board keeping in view the popularity of games, achievements of international level and activities of the Federations. At present, 40 National Sports Federations are affiliated with the Board. Each Federation is responsible for promotion and development of its respective game/sports.He told that Pakistan Sports Board was established under the Ministry of Education through the Sports (Development and Control) Ordinance, 1962 as a corporate body for the purposes of promoting and developing uniform standards of competition in sports in Pakistan comparable to the standards prevailing internationally, and regulating and controlling sports in Pakistan on a national basis. Subsequently, in July, 1977 with the creation of Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the administrative control of the Pakistan Sports Board was transferred to it.
After the devolution of the Ministry of Sports in June, 2011, the administrative control of the Pakistan Sports Board has transferred to Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination. Pakistan Sports Board was established under the Ministry of Education through the Sports (Development and Control) Ordinance, 1962 as a corporate body for the purposes of promoting and developing uniform standards of competition in sports in Pakistan comparable to the standards prevailing internationally, and regulating and controlling sports in Pakistan on a national basis. He told that PSB’s POA’s top priority is to promote the country’s sports and players and also revival of international sports in Pakistan. “It is unfortunate that we have been depriving of hosting international events in our country due to which our players got very less chances to appear in the international events. He said that the sports policy aims at promoting sports in the country by developing sports at grass root level. The declining standards of sports in the country has deeply concerned the government to take remedial measures and bring about changes which may remove flaws and bottlenecks for smooth functioning of the sports institutions and revive the booming past of sixties the role of PSB in this regard is exemplary. Further he stated the media can play a vital role for the promotion of sports in Pakistan .MrMuhammad Shahid himself a good sportsman born on November, 1970 at Sangla Hill (Nankana Sahib),he is currently working as Deputy Director General in Pakistan Sports Board.
