Islamabad–The Panama Papers case Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has summoned Future leader” of the PML,Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz on July 5th 2017 .Moreover, the last member of the Sharif family to be summoned by the JIT was MNA Capt (retd) Muhammad Safdar, Maryam’s husband,Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif as well as his brother Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif have also appeared before the JIT once each. Prior to entering in politics, she remained involved in the family’s philanthropic organisation[9] and served as the chairperson of Sharif Trust, Sharif Medical City and Sharif Education Institutes.In 2012, she begun her political career[11] and was made in charge of Nawaz Sharif election campaign during Pakistani general election, wherever she reportedly played a prominent role.In 2017, she was selected as one of the BBC’s 100 Women.She was described by Newsweek Pakistan in March 2012 issue as “heir apparent” of Nawaz Sharif and the “presumed future leader” of the PML-N.In November 2013, she was appointed as the chairperson of Prime Minister’s Youth Programme.[10] However her appointment was called into question and cited as an example of rampant nepotism by the opposition parties, especially the PTI. Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf took the matter to Lahore high court in October 2014 where Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah ordered the administration to force her to resign. During the hearing, deputy attorney general Amir Rehman presented her academic credentials but withdrew them after failing to answer a query whether the Ph.D. degree was actual or honorary. He claimed that the details presented before the court had been collected from the internet. Justice Shah also expressed astonishment over the combination of her claimed degrees –an M.A. in English Literature) followed by a doctorate in Political Science.In 2014, Sharif resigned from the post of the chairperson ship.
According to detailed a copy of the summons, the premier’s elder son Hussain Nawaz has been summoned on July 4 and his younger brother, Hasan, on July 3.The summons has also asked the respondents to bring forth relevant documents related to the Sharif family’s financial assets. The JIT, which resumed work today after taking a day’s break for Eid on Monday, has asked all three siblings to appear before it at 11am on their respective call dates. Hussain has appeared five times before the high-profile probe team whereas Hasan has been summoned twice.The JIT, formed on May 6 in light of the Supreme Court’s April 20 judgment in the Panama case, was given 60 days to complete its probe.
