ISLAMABAD: Following a wave of nationwide public anger over the Pakistan cricket team’s consecutive international failures, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has openly challenged Interior Minister and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi to bring an absolute “revolution” to the cricket board’s administrative framework.
In an official statement shared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Defence Minister voiced deep concern regarding the state of cricket in Pakistan, stating firmly that “no one is satisfied with the PCB’s performance.” This sharp criticism was triggered after Mohsin Naqvi publicly claimed during a business seminar that the state’s governance system had completely “collapsed.”
Background: A Series of Humiliating Defeats for Pakistan
The national cricket team and its administration have been facing severe backlash from former cricketers and millions of fans alike due to an unprecedented slump in form:
- Defeat Against West Indies: In the first Test match of their recent bilateral encounter, Pakistan suffered a devastating 90-run loss, with the batting lineup completely collapsing for a meager 120 runs in the second innings.
- Historic Test Clean-Sweep by Bangladesh: Prior to that, Bangladesh created history by clean-sweeping Pakistan on its home soil, inflicting severe defeats of 104 runs and 78 runs in the first and second Test matches respectively.

Beyond cricket, Khawaja Asif directly targeted Naqvi’s primary job as Interior Minister. Citing a recent security briefing by the military’s media wing (ISPR), Asif noted that while the armed forces are fighting actively on the ground, the execution of the remaining 12 civilian-led points of the National Action Plan (NAP) rests strictly with the Ministry of Interior. He concluded that heavy constitutional suggestions regarding country-wide systems must be presented before formal forums like the Federal Cabinet and Parliament, rather than public business panels.
