Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will present the case of flood victims to the world at the ‘Resilient Pakistan’ World Conference.
A high-level delegation including Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Climate Change Minister Sherry Rehman and Information and Broadcasting Minister Maryam Aurangzeb have been reached Geneva , Switzerland.
As the Conference on Climate Resilient Pakistan gets underway in Geneva tomorrow, a song “Aao Hum Kucch Aisa Karein”, penned, composed and sung by Shakeel Asghar Malik, an officer of Foreign Service of Pakistan has been launched .
The song, captioned in English as ‘Acts of Humanity’, is dedicated to the victims of recent floods in Pakistan and appeals to the spirit of giving and moral imperative of helping those in difficulty.
The soulful music track has been designed and recorded under the supervision of veteran music maestro Mujahid Hussain.

At the conference, Pakistan will emphasize the importance of global cooperation and long-term partnerships to realize the vision of reconstruction and rehabilitation of flood-affected areas.

The purpose of this Donors Conference is to bring together government representatives, public and private sector leaders and civil society to support the people and the government after the devastating floods of 2022.
In this regard, the spokesperson of the IMF said that the managing director of the IMF, Kristalina Georgieva, had a conversation on the phone with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on January 6.
Kristalina Georgieva reiterated her sympathies to those directly affected by the floods and praised Pakistan’s efforts for recovery measures, this development coming at a time when Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said 2 days ago that $7 billion An IMF delegation will come to Pakistan in 2 to 3 days to finalize the ninth review of the Expanded Fund Facility (EFF).
It should be remembered that Pakistan signed an agreement with the IMF for 6 billion dollars in 2019 and another billion dollars was added to it last year.
After the ninth review of the IMF, $1.18 billion will be released to Pakistan, which has been delayed, initially for 2 months by the federal government led by the Muslim League (N) in compliance with the specific conditions of the international organization. Disinterest was shown and the disagreement is still not over.

A press release issued by the Prime Minister’s Office on January 6 after the Prime Minister’s telephonic conversation with the Managing Director of the IMF stated that ‘Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif invited Kristalina Georgieva to attend the Climate Resilient Pakistan Conference in Geneva. has been invited’.
Kristalina Georgieva thanked the Prime Minister for the invitation but explained that due to the pre-scheduled meetings of the IMF Board on January 9 and 10, she would only be able to attend the conference online.
The Prime Minister thanked the Managing Director of the IMF for understanding the challenges facing the country and assured him that Pakistan is committed to successfully complete the ongoing debt program after the high-level inaugural session at the conference.
Reconstruction and rehabilitation partnerships will be documented and partner support announcements will be made later.
The Prime Minister and the United Nations Secretary General will also participate in a joint press stakeout. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif says that the attention of the world has been diverted from flood-hit Pakistan, but water is still standing in many areas of the country, including Sindh and Balochistan.
In an article published in a British newspaper, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that 1,700 people died in last year’s flood crisis and 33.3 million people were affected.

Expressing his concerns, he said that there are risks of flooding in these areas again by July 2023. The Prime Minister said that Pakistan is facing the ‘worst effects of climate change’ and also highlighted the issues regarding the hit wave coming in the country in 2022. “It is a fact that some of these areas experienced record heat and so did the rapid change in climate that is becoming the norm.” Pakistan has tackled these problems vigorously and the government has launched an emergency aid of $1.5 billion. Pakistan is grateful to the international community and friendly countries that helped to avoid the worst situation as more than 2 million houses, 14 thousand kilometers of roads and 23 thousand schools and medical centers were destroyed.
A review conducted jointly by the World Bank and the European Union estimated the damage caused by the floods to be more than $30 billion, which is one-tenth of Pakistan’s gross domestic product.
“These numbers illustrate the nature of the situation, which calls for a response that will strengthen a country’s resources.”

The Prime Minister said that United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres has personally seen scenes of inexplicable destruction during his visit to Sindh. The devastation is far greater than the floods in Pakistan in 2010, which the United Nations described as “the worst crisis ever experienced and Pakistan cannot handle it alone”.

Regarding the environmental conference, the prime minister said that both he and the head of the United Nations are hosting it in Geneva. “We will be joined by world leaders, representatives of international diplomatic and philanthropic institutions, and friends of Pakistan who will show support and solidarity with a country facing a crisis not of its own making.” World Bank, A road map has been developed in collaboration with the European Union, the Asian Development Bank and the United Nations for post-flood reconstruction and rehabilitation.The Prime Minister said that the first phase of the meeting is related to the challenge of at least 16.3 billion dollars required in 3 years for rehabilitation and reconstruction.
