پاکستان کی جانب سے شاہین شاہ آفریدی 10 اوور میں 90 رنز دے کر سب سے مہنگے باؤلر ثابت ہوئے، تاہم وہ کوئی وکٹ بھی حاصل نہ کرسکے، محمد وسیم سب سے کامیاب باؤلر رہے، انہوں نے 60 رنز کے عوض 3 کھلاڑیوں کو پویلین کی راہ دکھائی، جبکہ حسن علی نے 82 رنز، حارث رؤف نے 85 رنز اور افتخار احمد نے 55 رنز دے کر ایک ایک وکٹ لی۔ پاکستان نے 402رنز کا ہدف کا تعاقب شروع کیا تو اسے جلد ہی پہلا نقصان اٹھانا پڑا، جب دوسرے ہی اوور میں عبداللہ شفیق صرف 4 رنز بنا کر آؤٹ ہوگئے۔
فخر زمان کا ساتھ دینے کپتان بابر اعظم کریز پر پہنچے، دونوں میں مل کر پاکستان کو اچھا آغاز فراہم کیا، خاص طور پر بائیں ہاتھ سے کھیلنے والے زمان نے جارحانہ بیٹنگ کرتے ہوئے صرف 39 گیندوں پر ففٹی اسکور کی۔

بارش کے سبب میچ میں تقریباً ایک گھنٹے کا کھیل ضائع ہوا اور بارش رکنے کے بعد پاکستان کو 41 اوورز میں 342 رنز کا نظرثانی شدہ ہدف ملا ہے۔پاکستان نے اننگز کا دوبارہ آغاز کیا تو بابر اعظم نے چوکا لگاکر اپنی نصف سنچری مکمل کی اور پھر دونوں کھلاڑیوں نے ایش سودھی کے ایک اوور میں 20 رنز بٹورے اور پاکستان نے 26ویں اوور میں ڈبل سنچری مکمل کر لی۔
پاکستان نے 25.3 اوورز میں ایک وکٹ کے نقصان پر 200 رنز بنائے ہی تھے کہ میچ میں ایک بار پھر بارش نے مداخلت کردی۔
جب میچ رکا تو پاکستان ڈک ورتھ لوئس میتھڈ کے تحت میچ میں 21 رنز سے آگے تھا اور مقررہ وقت تک میچ شروع نہ ہونے پر پاکستان کو ڈی ایل ایس میتھڈ کے تحت 21 رنز سے میچ کا فاتح قرار دیا گیا۔
اس سے قبل آئی سی سی ورلڈکپ کے 35ویں میچ میں نیوزی لینڈ ٹیم کی جانب سے ڈیون کونوے اور راچن رویندرا بیٹنگ کے لیے میدان میں اترے جبکہ شاہین شاہ آفریدی نے عمدہ باؤلنگ کے ساتھ آغاز کیا۔
