Will Pakistan and India make history by playing the Asia Cup final for the first time in the 40-year history? Because the surprising thing is that in the nearly 40-year history of the Asia Cup, 15 tournaments were played, but Pakistan and India did not clash in any of the finals. That in the Asia Cup now Pakistan team needs victory in today’s match against Sri Lanka to reach the final. The winner of the match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka will face India in the final of the Asia Cup. This tournament though is the sixteenth event of the Asia Cup and was played in the style of One Day International cricket. Among the 6 participating teams, Pakistan and India were declared favorites based on their recent performance. Last year, Pakistan and India clashed twice in the Asia Cup, played in the style of T20 international cricket in the United Arab Emirates. In the group match, India defeated Pakistan by 5 wickets, but then in the Super Four, Pakistan defeated India by the same margin, however, in the final, Pakistan was defeated by Sri Lanka. If the history of the Asia Cup If we look at the 13 ODI tournaments played so far, we see that although the country that has won the most titles is India, the country that has won the most matches overall is Sri Lanka, who have won 34 matches in 13 tournaments. Gained victories. It also has the highest success rate which is 68%. Sri Lanka have also played the most number of matches with 50 matches. They are the only country to complete a half-century in One Day Internationals in Asia Cup while India have played 49, Pakistan 45 and Bangladesh 43 matches. Both Pakistan and India are being declared favorites for Asia Cup 2023. So far, the two arch-rivals have played 15 ODIs against each other in the Asia Cup. Among them, India defeated Pakistan in 8 matches while Pakistan defeated India in 5 matches. 2nd match was inconclusive. Just 4 days before the Asia Cup 2023, Pakistan has swept Afghanistan in all three matches of the One Day International series at the neutral venue of Sri Lanka and has snatched the top position from Australia in the ICC world rankings. While India is two places behind it and is in third place with 113 points. Among the other teams in the Asia Cup, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan are ranked seventh, eighth and ninth respectively. Newcomer Nepal has got the fifteenth position. According to the latest ranking of players released by the ICC on the basis of individual performance, Babar Azam, the captain of the Pakistan team, is at the first place in the world ranking with 880 points. His fellow openers Imam-ul-Haq are third while Fakhar Zaman is fifth. India’s Shibman Gul is fourth and Virat Kohli is ninth. In bowling, Indian pacer Muhammad Siraj is fifth and spinner Kuldeep Yadav is tenth. Pakistan’s fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi is at ninth. Pakistan’s chances of success in Asia Cup 2023 Roshan is bright and looks set to become the champion for the third time in history. The 16th Asia Cup was to be hosted by Pakistan, but India refused to play on the land of its traditional rival, citing security concerns. After consultation with the members, the ACC decided that 4 matches of this tournament will be played in Pakistan and the remaining 9 matches, including the final, will be played in Sri Lanka. The Asia Cup was started after the establishment of the Asian Cricket Council in 1983. Established in Sharjah. This council was established to promote the game of cricket in Asia and thereby improve mutual relations between Asian countries. At that time three Asian countries India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka were authorized to play international cricket due to full membership of the International Cricket Council (ICC).It should be noted that the first tournament was held in 1984 in Sharjah where the ACC offices were located. Two years later in 1986, the second Asia Cup was played in Sri Lanka, but India boycotted the tournament due to political disputes with the host country. The next tournament was played in 1988 in which Bangladesh also participated and was also the host of this tournament. Thus, the number of teams in the tournament became 4.
Then 1990-91 tournament was hosted by India but Pakistan did not participate in this competition due to political tension between the two countries. After that, in 1993, the Asia Cup was to be held in Pakistan for the first time, but due to the same political disputes, this tournament was cancelled.
However, two years later in 1995, when the fifth Asia Cup was played, it was hosted by Sharjah (UAE) for the second time. The same 4 countries participated in this as before. Then the same four also participated in the sixth and seventh editions of the Asia Cup, which were held in Sri Lanka in 1997 and Bangladesh in 2000 respectively.
However, the next two Asia Cup tournaments were played at 4-year intervals and the number of teams increased from 4 to 6 in both of them. These two additional teams were from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Hong Kong, which had received permission from the ICC to play ODI cricket. The first of these tournaments was played in Sri Lanka in 2004 and the second in 2008 in Pakistan. Thus, Pakistan got the opportunity to host the Asia Cup for the first time.
In 2009, the ACC decided that the Asia Cup would now be held every two years, while the ICC announced that all its events would be ODI cricket. In 2010, the tenth edition of the Asia Cup was held in Sri Lanka and in 2012 in Bangladesh. In both the traditional four teams Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh participated. However, Afghanistan participated in the Asia Cup for the first time through the qualifying round in 2014. Thus, 5 countries participated in this tournament played in Bangladesh.
In 2016, for the first time, the Asia Cup matches were played in T20 International cricket style and it was decided that now this tournament will be played alternately in both formats. The 2016 edition was also held in Bangladesh. Thus, this country set the record of hosting 3 consecutive Asia Cup tournaments. 5 teams also participated in this tournament. This time the fifth team was from United Arab Emirates.
The next tournament, the fourteenth edition of the Asia Cup, was played in 2018 in the format of One Day International cricket. 6 teams participated in it. Afghanistan was allowed to play international cricket. Hong Kong was the sixth team to qualify for the tournament. UAE, the participating team in the previous edition, could not qualify this time, but it definitely got the honor of hosting. Actually, this tournament was supposed to be hosted by India but due to its political disputes with Pakistan, it had to be shifted to UAE.
The 15th Asia Cup was to be held in Sri Lanka in 2020, but it was postponed after the arrival of the Corona epidemic and it was decided that this tournament will be played in June 2021, but due to the spread of Corona, it was postponed once again. And it was decided that now this tournament will be held in 2022. Since the 2022 edition was already in Pakistan’s name, it was decided that Sri Lanka would host the 2022 event and Pakistan would host the sixteenth edition to be held in 2023.
Later, due to the political and economic crisis in Sri Lanka, the Asia Cup was shifted to the UAE. However, the hosts were awarded to Sri Lanka. Therefore, this tournament was played in the Emirates on the format of T20 international cricket, in which six teams namely India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Hong Kong participated.
کیا پاکستان اوربھارت پہلی بار40 سالہ تاریخ میں ایشیا کپ کا فائنل کھیل کر تاریخ رقم کریں گے ؟ کیونکہ حیرت کی بات یہ ہے کہ ایشیا کپ کی تقریباً 40 سالہ تاریخ میں 15 ٹورنامنٹ کھیلے گئےمگر کسی بھی فائنل میں پاکستان اور بھارت آپس میں نہیں ٹکرائے۔ایشیا کپ سپر فور پاکستان اور سری لنکاآج ہونے والا میچ سیمی فائنل بن گیا ہے, واضح رہے کہ ایشیا کپ میں اب پاکستان کی ٹیم کو فائنل تک رسائی کے لیے سری لنکا کے خلاف آج کے میچ میں فتح درکار ہے۔ پاکستان اور سری لنکا کے درمیان میچ کی فاتح ٹیم کا ایشیا کپ کے فائنل میں بھارت سے مقابلہ ہو گا۔ تاریخ رقم کرنے اورایشیا کپ فائنل میں روایتی حریف بھارت کے ساتھ مقابلے کے لیے پاکستان کو سری لنکا کے خلاف کامیابی حاصل کرنا ہوگی، دوسری صورت میں پاکستانی ٹیم ایونٹ سے باہر ہوجائے گی۔ اگر پاکستان اور سری لنکا کے درمیان آج ہونے والا میچ بارش کی نذر ہو جاتا ہے تو ایسی صورت میں دونوں ٹیموں کو ایک،ایک پوائنٹ ملے گا اور سری لنکا کی ٹیم بہتر رن ریٹ کی وجہ سے فائنل میں جگہ بنا لے گی۔
یاد رہےکہ پاکستانی ٹیم کو گزشتہ میچ میں بھارت کے ہاتھوں بدترین شکست کا سامنا کرنا پڑا تھا تاہم سپر فور کے پہلے میچ میں بنگلہ دیش کو شکست دی تھی۔ سُپر فور مرحلے کے میچ میں بھارت نے سری لنکا کو 41 رنز سے شکست دے کر فائنل کےلیے کوالیفائی کیا تھا ۔
تاہم اس مرتبہ توقع ہے کہ پاکستان اور بھارت ایشیا کپ فائنل میں ایک دوسرے کے مد مقابل ہوں گے اور اس طرح ایشیا کپ کے سولہویں ایڈیشن کو یادگار بنا دیں گے۔بھارت کی فتح نے پاکستان کےلیے کیلکولیشن آسان بنادی ہے اور اسے اب رن ریٹ کی فکر کیے بغیر بس سری لنکا سے میچ جیتنا ہے
یہ ٹورنامنٹ اگرچہ ایشیا کپ کا سولہواں ایونٹ ہے اور ون ڈے انٹرنیشنل کرکٹ کی طرز پر کھیلا گیا۔ اس میں شریک 6 ٹیموں میں پاکستان اور بھارت اپنی حالیہ کارکردگی کی بنیاد پر فیورٹ قرار دیئے گئے ۔ گزشتہ سال متحدہ عرب امارات میں ٹی20 انٹرنیشنل کرکٹ کی طرز پر کھیلے گئے ایشیا کپ میں پاکستان اور بھارت دو بار باہم ٹکرائے۔ گروپ میچ میں بھارت نے پاکستان کو 5 وکٹ سے ہرایا تھا مگر پھر سُپر فور میں پاکستان نے بدلہ لیتے ہوئے بھارت کو اتنے ہی مارجن سے شکست دی تھی تاہم، فائنل میں پاکستان کو سری لنکا سے مات ہو گئی تھی۔اگر ایشیا کپ کی تاریخ میں اب تک کھیلے گئے ون ڈے انٹرنیشنل کے 13 ٹورنامنٹ کا جائزہ لیا جائے تو ہم دیکھتے ہیں کہ سب سے زیادہ ٹائٹل جیتنے والا ملک اگرچہ بھارت ہے مگر مجموعی طور پر سب سے زیادہ میچ جیتنے والا ملک سری لنکا ہے جس نے 13 ٹورنامنٹ میں 34 فتوحات حاصل کیں۔ کامیابی کا سب سے زیادہ تناسب بھی اسی کا ہے جوکہ 68 فیصد ہے۔ سب سے زیادہ میچ بھی سری لنکا نے ہی کھیلے ہیں جن کی تعداد 50 ہے۔ وہ ایشیا کپ میں ون ڈے انٹرنیشنلز کی نصف سنچری مکمل کرنے والا واحد ملک ہے جبکہ بھارت نے 49، پاکستان نے 45 اور بنگلادیش نے 43 میچ کھیلے ہیں۔ بھارت نے 31 میچز میں کامیابی حاصل کی جبکہ پاکستان نے 26 میچز میں فتوحات سمیٹیں۔ دونوں کی کامیابی کا تناسب بالترتیب 65.62 فی صد اور 59.09 فیصد ہے۔
ایشیا کپ 2023ء کے لیے پاکستان اور بھارت دونوں کو فیورٹ قرار دیا جارہا ہے۔ اب تک دونوں روایتی حریف ایشیا کپ میں ایک دوسرے کے خلاف 15 ون ڈے انٹرنیشنلز کھیل چکے ہیں۔ ان میں سے بھارت نے پاکستان کو 8 میچوں میں شکست دی جبکہ پاکستان نے بھارت کو 5 میچوں میں ہرایا۔ 2 میچ بے نتیجہ رہا۔ ایشیا کپ 2023ء سے صرف 4 دن قبل پاکستان نے افغانستان کو سری لنکا کے نیوٹرل مقام پر ون ڈے انٹرنیشنل سیریز کے تینوں میچوں میں شکست دے کر کلین سویپ کیا ہے اور آئی سی سی کی عالمی رینکنگ میں آسٹریلیا سے ٹاپ پوزیشن چھین کر سر فہرست آگیا جبکہ بھارت اس سے دو نمبر پیچھے ہے اور 113 پوائنٹس کے ساتھ تیسرے نمبر پر ہے۔ ایشیا کپ میں شامل دیگر ٹیموں میں بنگلادیش، سری لنکا اور افغانستان بالترتیب ساتویں، آٹھویں اور نویں نمبر پر موجود ہیں۔ نووارد نیپال کو پندرہویں پوزیشن حاصل ہےانفرادی کارکردگی کی بنیاد پر بھی آئی سی سی نے کھلاڑیوں کی جو تازہ ترین درجہ بندی جاری کی ہے اس کے مطابق بلے بازوں میں پاکستان ٹیم کے کپتان بابر اعظم 880 پوائنٹس کے ساتھ عالمی رینکنگ میں پہلے نمبر پر ہیں۔ ان کے ساتھی اوپنرز امام الحق تیسرے جبکہ فخر زمان پانچویں نمبر پر ہیں۔ بھارت کے شبمن گل کا چوتھا اور ویرات کوہلی کا نواں نمبر ہے۔باؤلنگ میں بھارتی پیسر محمد سراج پانچویں اور اسپنر کلدیپ یادیو کو دسویں پاکستان کے تیز رفتار باؤلر شاہین شاہ آفریدی نویں نمبر پر موجود ہیں۔ایشیا کپ 2023ء میں پاکستان کی کامیابی کے امکانات روشن ہیں اور تاریخ میں تیسری مرتبہ چیمپیئن بننے کے لیے تیار نظر آرہا ہے۔ سولہویں ایشیا کپ کی میزبانی پاکستان کو کرنی تھی مگر بھارت نے یہ کہہ کر کہ اسے سیکیورٹی کے خدشات ہیں اپنے اس روایتی حریف کی سرزمین پر کھیلنے سے انکار کردیا۔ اس پر اے سی سی نے اراکین سے مشاورت کے بعد فیصلہ کیا کہ اس ٹورنامنٹ کے 4 میچ پاکستان اور بقیہ 9 میچز، بشمول فائنل، سری لنکا میں کھیلے جائیں گے۔ایشیا کپ کا آغاز ایشین کرکٹ کونسل کے قیام کے بعد ہوا جو 1983ء میں شارجہ میں قائم ہوئی۔ یہ کونسل ایشیا میں کرکٹ کے کھیل کو فروغ دینے اور اس کے ذریعے ایشیائی ممالک کے مابین باہمی تعلقات کو بہتر بنانے کے لیے قائم کی گئی تھی۔ اس وقت ایشیا کے تین ممالک بھارت، پاکستان اور سری لنکا انٹرنیشنل کرکٹ کونسل ( آئی سی سی) کی مکمل رکنیت کے باعث بین الاقوامی کرکٹ کھیلنے کے مجاز تھے لہذا، ابتدائی 4 برسوں کے دوران یہی تینوں ممالک ایشیا کپ کے مقابلوں میں حصہ لیتے رہے۔ یاد رہےکہ پہلا ٹورنامنٹ 1984ء میں شارجہ میں منعقد ہوا جہاں اے سی سی کے دفاتر واقع تھے۔ دو سال بعد 1986ء میں دوسرا ایشیا کپ سری لنکا میں کھیلا گیا مگر بھارت نے میزبان ملک کے ساتھ سیاسی تنازعات کے باعث اس ٹورنامنٹ کا بائیکاٹ کیا۔ اگلا ٹورنامنٹ 1988ء میں کھیلا گیا جس میں بنگلادیش نے بھی حصہ لیا اور وہی اس ٹورنامنٹ کا میزبان بھی تھا۔ یوں ٹورنامنٹ میں ٹیموں کی تعداد 4 ہوگئی۔
پھر 91-1990ء کے ٹورنامنٹ کی میزبانی بھارت کو ملی مگر پاکستان نے دونوں ممالک کے درمیان سیاسی کشیدگی کی وجہ سے اس مقابلے میں حصہ نہیں لیا۔ اس کے بعد 1993ء میں ایشیا کپ کا انعقاد پہلی مرتبہ پاکستان میں ہونا تھا مگر انہی سیاسی جھگڑوں کی وجہ سے یہ ٹورنامنٹ منسوخ کردیا گیا۔
تاہم دو سال بعد 1995ء میں پانچواں ایشیا کپ کھیلا گیا تو اس کی میزبانی دوسری مرتبہ شارجہ ( یو اے ای) نے کی۔ اس میں بھی حسب سابق انہی 4 ممالک نے حصہ لیا۔ پھر انہی چاروں نے ایشیا کپ کے چھٹے اور ساتویں ایڈیشن میں بھی شرکت کی، جو بالترتیب 1997ء میں سری لنکا اور 2000ء میں بنگلا دیش میں منعقد ہوئے۔
تاہم ایشیا کپ کے اگلے دو ٹورنامنٹ 4، 4 سال کے وقفوں سے کھیلے گئے اور ان دونوں میں ٹیموں کی تعداد 4 سے بڑھ کر 6 ہوگئی۔ یہ دو اضافی ٹیمیں متحدہ عرب امارات (یو اے ای) اور ہانگ کانگ کی تھیں جنہیں آئی سی سی کی جانب سے ون ڈے انٹرنیشنل کرکٹ کھیلنے کی اجازت مل چکی تھی۔ ان میں سے پہلا ٹورنامنٹ 2004ء میں سری لنکا اور دوسرا 2008ء میں پاکستان میں کھیلا گیا۔ اس طرح پاکستان کو پہلی بار ایشیا کپ کی میزبانی کا موقع ملا۔
2009ء میں اے سی سی نے فیصلہ کیا کہ ایشیا کپ اب ہر دو سال بعد منعقد ہوا کرے گا جبکہ آئی سی سی نے اس کے تمام مقابلوں کو ون ڈے انٹرنیشنل کرکٹ کی حیثیت دینے کا اعلان کیا۔ 2010ء میں ایشیا کپ کے دسویں ایڈیشن کا انعقاد سری لنکا اور 2012ء میں بنگلادیش میں ہوا۔ دونوں میں روایتی چار ٹیموں پاکستان، بھارت، سری لنکا اور بنگلادیش نے حصہ لیا۔ تاہم 2014ء میں کوالیفائنگ راؤنڈ کے ذریعے افغانستان نے پہلی مرتبہ ایشیا کپ میں شرکت کی۔ اس طرح بنگلادیش میں کھیلے گئے اس ٹورنامنٹ میں 5 ممالک نے حصہ لیا۔
2016ء میں پہلی مرتبہ ایشیا کپ کے مقابلے ٹی20 انٹرنیشنل کرکٹ کی طرز پر ہوئے اور یہ طے ہوا کہ اب یہ ٹورنامنٹ باری باری دونوں فارمیٹ میں کھیلا جائے گا۔ 2016ء کے ایڈیشن کا انعقاد بھی بنگلادیش ہی میں ہوا۔ اس طرح اس ملک نے ایشیا کپ کے مسلسل 3 ٹورنامنٹ کی میزبانی کا ریکارڈ قائم کیا۔ اس ٹورنامنٹ میں بھی 5 ٹیموں نے شرکت کی۔ اس مرتبہ پانچویں ٹیم متحدہ عرب امارات کی تھی۔
اگلا ٹورنامنٹ، جو ایشیا کپ کا چودہواں ایڈیشن تھا، ون ڈے انٹرنیشنل کرکٹ کی طرز پر 2018ء میں کھیلا گیا۔ اس میں 6 ٹیموں نے حصہ لیا۔ افغانستان کو بین الاقوامی کرکٹ کھیلنے کی اجازت مل چکی تھی۔ چھٹی ٹیم ہانگ کانگ کی تھی جس نے اس ٹورنامنٹ کے لیے کوالیفائی کیا۔ گزشتہ ایڈیشن میں شریک ٹیم یو اے ای اس بار کوالیفائی تو نہیں کرسکی مگر اسے میزبانی کا اعزاز ضرور حاصل ہوا۔ دراصل، اس ٹورنامنٹ کی میزبانی بھارت کو کرنی تھی مگر پاکستان کے ساتھ اس کے سیاسی تنازعات کے باعث اسے یو اے ای منتقل کرنا پڑا۔
پندرہویں ایشیا کپ کا انعقاد 2020ء میں سری لنکا میں ہونا تھا مگر کورونا وبا کی آمد کے بعد اسے ملتوی کردیا گیا اور یہ طے ہوا کہ یہ ٹورنامنٹ جون 2021ء میں کھیلا جائے گا، مگر کورونا کے پھیلاؤ کی وجہ سے یہ ایک بار پھر ملتوی ہوگیا اور فیصلہ ہوا کہ اب یہ ٹورنامنٹ 2022ء میں ہوگا۔ چونکہ 2022ء کے ایڈیشن کی میزبانی پہلے ہی سے پاکستان کے نام تھی لہٰذا یہ طے ہوا کہ 2022ء کے ایونٹ کا میزبان سری لنکا ہوگا اور پاکستان سولہویں ایڈیشن کا میزبان ہوگا جو 2023ء میں منعقد کیا جائے گا۔
بعد میں سری لنکا کے سیاسی اور معاشی بحران کے باعث ایشیا کپ یو اے ای منتقل کردیا گیا۔ تاہم، میزبان کی حیثیت سری لنکا کو ہی دی گئی۔ لہٰذا یہ ٹورنامنٹ ٹی20 انٹرنیشنل کرکٹ کے فارمیٹ پر امارات میں کھیلا گیا جس میں حسب سابق 6 ٹیموں یعنی بھارت، پاکستان، سری لنکا، بنگلادیش، افغانستان اور ہانگ کانگ نے حصہ لیا تھا ۔
