ZTBL women cricket team wins 11th Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah Women Championship

Islamabad The President/ CEO ZTBL Syed Talat Mahmood said that Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) is trying to promote the healthy culture in Pakistan, ZTBL president praises women cricket team and sport activities in Pakistan In line with the policy of government to promote healthy sports culture specially women sports in Pakistan to dispel the impression of orthodox society, ZTBL must Endeavour to develop its strategy for talent hunt among men & women in every field of sports. This was stated by Syed Talat Mahmood, President ZTBL in a reception hosted in honour of ZTBL women cricket team, here on other day. Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) women cricket team who had won the 11th Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah National Women Championship 2016, since 2009 did not lose a single match in competitive cricket. Speaking on the occasion ZTBL President not only praised the performance of ZTBL women team but also recalled that ZTBL is fulfilling its social responsibility for promotion of humility teamwork, maturity and selflessness by means of sports. As a special gesture, the President awarded an extra prize of Rs 200,000 to the winning team and Rs 50,000 to the runners up. He also praised the performance of Miss Mahin Aftab and Alina Aftab (Under-16 tennis players) that performed outstandingly at national and international level. Mahin won the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Asian Under-14 Championship in 2015 played at Vietnam. Mahin Aftab also has the honour to become first Pakistani women who has won the ITF Single International Tennis Championship up till now. Master Nofil Kaleem has also won the Asian U-15 title in the male category. While speaking on the occasion the President also mentioned that ZTBL is providing players to the different national teams i.e. Saeed Ajmal, Sohail Tanvir, Haris Sohail, Imran Khan, Zohaib Khan, Shahid Yousaf, and Usman Khan Shinwari are representing Pakistan cricket team in different format of the game. Similarly Tayyab Aslam, Waqas Mehboob, Waqar Mehboob, (male players) Riffat Khan, Zoya Khalid and Rushna Mehboob are representing Pakistan in squash male and female teams during the last few years. Chairman Board of Directors Syed Yawar Ali also appreciated the performance of women cricket team and Bank’s initiatives for creating reality environment by means of promotion of sports culture in the institution. He also expressed satisfaction over the Bank’s preparedness for meeting global challenges. Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited ZTBL beat the State Bank by eight wickets in the final of the Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah Women’s Championship at Rawalpindi. ZTBL were helped by fine innings by player-of-the-match Naheeda Khan (70, six fours), Javeria Wadood Khan (57, seven fours and two sixes) and Bismah Maroof (27 not out) as they cruised to the 180-run target in 34.1 overs. Fareeha Mehmood’s 48-run knock helped the State Bank post a modest total of 179-9 in 50 overs with Aiman Anwar claiming three wickets. Javeria was named player of the tournament while her skipper Sana Mir was named best bowler. Pakistan women’s ODI skipper Sana Mir said that the decision of retirement from the T20 as captain is final but as a player I will available for the team, ‘I setting a trend to pass the post of captainship for other player’’. I have no pressure in this regard, stated the always smiling face Sana Mir. She made her announcement after returning to the country with her side following her team’s exit from the World T20 2016 in India. Talking to media, Sana Mir said that she took the decision so that new talent steps forward and leads the side from the front. Sana Mir, while replying to a question about taking on India on the field, said that she is the daughter of an army officer, so her first coach back in 2005 had reminded her of that when playing against India and ordered her to break her opponents’ teeth.“Then in 2013, when we visited India to play in the ICC Women’s World Cup, we received threats from the Shiv Sena, which is not a nice memory as we were kept away from the other teams for security reasons at a time when interaction with other players is important for us to gain exposure,” she said.“We have always had aggressive thoughts for India but this time before our match with India, a little boy, who couldn’t have been more than eight-years-old, and who was standing with me when our national anthem played, turned to me before leaving and wished me good luck,” Sana shared. “That’s fine sportsmanship spirit for you,” she said. Pakistan managed to beat India and Bangladesh in this year’s World Twenty20 under Mir’s leadership but was shown the door following losses to West Indies and England.Earlier The Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) has won the 11th Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah Women Championship. The final match was played at Pindi stadium; Rawalpindi between ZTBL and State Bank teams.The State Bank team won the toss and chosen bat first and set a target of 179-9 in 50 overs. Fareeha Mehmood was the highest scorer who made 48 and, Aliya Riaz made 23 runs and Sidra Amin made 20 runs with 4x4s on 16 balls. Aiman Anwar 3-25 proved she as a best bowler.The ZTBL chased the target in just 34.1 over’s and lost only 2 wickets. Naheeda Khan 70 and Javeria Khan 57 contribution gave an easy path for win to their fellows. Bismah Maroof scored 27 on just 28 balls and remained not out.ZTBL Naheeda Khan was awarded Player of the match, Captain Sana Mir was declared the best bowler of the tournament whereas ZTBL’s Javeria Wadood selected for the award of best player of the tournament. Best Wicket Keeper of the Tournament award given to Islamabad’s Huma Shafiq.
