Sky 47 Project: Pakistan’s Unassailable Security, Guarantee of Digital Future

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has termed innovative projects like “Sky 47” as a guarantee of Pakistan’s safest future and said that this project will provide the country with unassailable security. He paid great tribute to all stakeholders, the visionary leadership of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and the partner company ‘ZTE’ for giving this great gift to the nation.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir jointly officially inaugurated the “Sky 47 Data Center Karakoram One” equipped with the latest technology, which will take the country to new heights of information technology and defense self-reliance. Success in the Battle of Truth and National Commitment: Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Prime Minister termed the victory in the Battle of Truth as the greatest moment in the country’s history. He said that if difficulties and challenges are faced with hope, courage and continuous hard work, then historic feats like the Battle of Truth are born. He emphasized that continuous hard work makes such great projects a reality, and if we all work together, no goal in the world remains unachievable.
In a detailed briefing to the Prime Minister on the project, it was stated that this data center will serve as the backbone of digital services in Pakistan. Its main features are as follows: Cloud and Data Services: This center will provide a very strong foundation for cloud computing, secure data hosting, and wider digital services.
This project is a major step towards Pakistan’s self-reliance in the field of technology, which will meet the requirements of artificial intelligence (AI). This center is equipped with the highest capabilities of machine learning and high-performance computing.
The Prime Minister particularly appreciated that this impressive and commendable project has been completed in a very short period of time with extraordinary determination, strong conviction, and high expertise. The beginning of a new era of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Pakistan, Federal Minister for Information Technology (IT) Shaza Fatima Khawaja also addressed the ceremony and termed the project a milestone for the country. She said that the inauguration of Sky 47 Data Center marks the beginning of a new era of Artificial Intelligence in Pakistan, which is opening the doors to a whole new economic era. Now Pakistan will be able to take full advantage of its resources and human potential. Shaza Fatima Khawaja further clarified that this data center has the full potential to convert data into practical actions and adapt Artificial Intelligence into real economic value. She said that Data Insights are the real economic power of the future, and Pakistan’s success in the global race for Artificial Intelligence will depend on the safe, low-cost, and effective use of data. The Sky47 Karakoram One data center is Pakistan’s largest and most advanced strategic asset in the areas of defense autonomy, artificial intelligence (AI), and cybersecurity. According to the government and military leadership, the project is a milestone in making the country’s defenses impregnable against external cyber attacks and securing the most sensitive national data locally. This data center provides Pakistan’s most important national, defense, and government data with a highly secure and encrypted environment through cloud computing, which will permanently block the path of external cyber threats and data hacking. In the past, it had to rely on foreign servers for hosting sensitive data, but after Sky 47, Pakistan has moved towards complete autonomy in the field of technology.Under the supervision of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, this project has been described as a strong bridge between the country’s defense and digital infrastructure, so that hybrid warfare can be effectively combated. This center has supercomputing capabilities in Pakistan to process machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms. With its help, automated systems can be implemented in various government and defense institutions. The Karakoram One Data Center is designed to provide large-scale cloud services, where digital services, data hosting, and cloud management for millions of users can be run securely at the same time. The latest processors installed in this center are capable of analyzing the most complex scientific, economic, and defense data in seconds. Chinese technology company ZTE has acted as Pakistan’s technical partner in this project. They have provided the latest hardware, 5G-ready infrastructure, and secure networking technology for the data center. Chinese engineers and Pakistani experts jointly demonstrated exceptional expertise and activated this grand project in record time, which the Prime Minister described as an example of extraordinary determination. This center will directly transform Pakistan’s human potential and digital data into economic power. Data insights will be used to develop agriculture, finance, and industrial sectors. The presence of a local data center will provide Pakistani companies and startups with world-class secure cloud services at a much lower cost than international servers. The Sky47 Karakoram One data center will completely change the country’s business landscape by providing affordable, secure, and international-quality digital services to ordinary Pakistani companies and startups. Till now, Pakistani companies had to bear huge expenses on foreign hosting, but now all these facilities will be available locally. Pakistani startups will no longer have to make payments to Amazon (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud in dollars. They will be able to get affordable cloud hosting in the local currency (rupees). Startups will not need expensive hardware to develop their artificial intelligence models, apps, and software. They will be able to rent out the high-performance computing (HPC) of this data center. Startups in the finance, agriculture, and healthcare sectors will be able to analyze large amounts of data and improve their services. Since the data center is located within Pakistan (locally), the speed of data transfer and loading of websites or apps will be many times faster than on foreign servers. E-commerce (online shopping) apps and digital banking platforms will be able to work very smoothly without any delay or interruption. Under Pakistan’s data privacy laws, many organizations (especially fintech and banking) must keep customer data within the country. This center will provide these companies with the most secure data hosting as per the law. Startups will get the world’s most advanced cybersecurity and encryption facilities to protect their valuable data and business secrets. Companies can keep live backups of all their sensitive records, customer data, and software here. In case of any accident, system crash, or cyber attack, data can be recovered immediately. The process of getting services from Sky47 Karakoram One Data Center for general companies and startups has been made extremely simple, digital, and automated. Since it is Pakistan’s largest and first commercial-level “AI-Ready” cloud infrastructure, the steps to connect to it are as follows: Startups and corporate companies can register themselves and start services through the following steps: Sign up on the online portal: You can create your account as an enterprise (Enterprise/Startup) by visiting the official website of Sky47. During registration, the company’s SECP registration certificate, NTN number, and authorized representative’s identity card (CNIC) details are required to be provided to comply with data security laws. After signup, companies can choose cloud hosting (Sky47 Cloud), colocation space (Sky47 Space), security services (Sky47 Secure) or artificial intelligence workloads (Sky47 AI) as per their requirements. Convenient monthly or annual packages are available for startups, which can be paid in Pakistani Rupees (PKR) instead of dollars through local banking channels or payment gateways. This main data center is located in the 100-kanal Capital Smart City, Islamabad, with an existing power capacity of 8.5 MW.
A second large data center of 5 MW is being rapidly developed in Karachi’s Port Qasim, which will be operational by September 2026, to provide companies with regional redundancy. After Islamabad and Karachi, approval has also been given to expand this network to Lahore. The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) and the ‘Ignite Fund’ are providing special concessions to local startups on the use of this data center: Newly registered tech startups are initially being provided with free trials and concessional credits for cloud computing and hosting so that they can test their ideas at a low cost. The Sky47 team is providing 24/7 operational support and free migration (transferring data from other servers here) to local developers and companies.
