India’s Last-Minute Exit Sparks Controversy at the CAVA Men’s Volleyball Championship in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD — The highly anticipated CAVA Men’s Volleyball Championship 2026 officially serves off today at the iconic Liaquat Gymnasium inside the Pakistan Sports Complex, running from July 22 to July 29, 2026.

Organized by the Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF) under the Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA), this high-stakes tournament carries official world-ranking points. It marks one of the grandest international volleyball spectacles ever staged on Pakistani soil.

The official championship trophy was unveiled in a prestigious pre-tournament ceremony in Islamabad, where captains and team delegates gathered alongside volleyball federation officials to mark the launch of the historic event.

The biggest pre-tournament headline comes off the court. The Indian men’s volleyball team executed a stunning, last-minute withdrawal just hours before the opening serves. This pullout occurred despite the Government of Pakistan issuing an official No Objection Certificate (NOC) and complete security clearances at the specific request of the Volleyball Federation of India (VFI).

Speaking to reporters at the tournament’s official trophy unveiling ceremony, PVF Chairman Chaudhry Mohammad Yaqoob did not hide his frustration over the sudden absence.

“We are surprised by India’s withdrawal after all necessary arrangements had been completed. At their request, the federation, in coordination with the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC), and other relevant government departments, secured all required NOCs and comprehensive security guarantees to ensure the Indian team’s safe participation in Islamabad.”

Despite the political dampener, Chairman Yaqoob emphasized that India’s exit does not diminish the tournament’s prestige.
