Islamabad–The Philip Barton CMG OBE, the British High Commissioner to Pakistan, today hosted a ceremony to observe Remembrance Day 2015. Lieutenant General Imran Majeed, Surgeon General of Pakistan, and Director General Medical Services for all of Pakistan’s Armed Services attended the ceremony.
The Remembrance Day service included a two minute silence, which took place at 11am on 11 November to mark the end of World War One. This was followed by the laying of wreaths by members of the diplomatic community and armed services, to remember all those who died fighting for their countries.
The ceremony was officiated by the Bishop of Lahore, The Right Reverend Irfan Jamil with Hafiz Iftikhar Ahmed. Havildar Mehboob and the buglers of the Frontier Force Regiment provided the music.
In his remarks, the British High Commissioner also paid tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in operation Zarb-e-Azb in Pakistan.
During the Remembrance Day Service, Philip Barton, the British High Commissioner, said:“Recently, I visited the home of the Pakistan Army Regiment – the Punjab Regiment – in which my grandfather served throughout his long career in British India. I laid a wreath for the Pakistani Soldiers who have been killed on recent operations to secure their country from terror, as well as wreaths at the graves of two British Victoria Cross winners from conflicts of the past. “It is always hard to stand at the graves of young men cut down in their prime. It is right that we should remember them.“As legitimate bearers of arms, service men and women around the world have forged friendships and camaraderie that are based on the shared ideal of a common good. What marks them out from other public servants is an understanding that the pursuit of this ideal may require the ultimate sacrifice. This brotherhood of soldiers, sailors and airmen crosses divisions between nations and is often strengthened by the shared burden of danger. “The reason so many countries are in this brotherhood of arms is because we are, at root, often dedicated towards similar ends – those of peace and stability. That is what is behind the tremendous efforts and sacrifices of Pakistan’s Armed Forces on operations such as Zarb-e Azb.“Shortly, we shall be laying our own wreaths, country by country, and reflecting on this service and sacrifice. As we do so, let us remember all those brave members of the military around the world in harms’ way today, as well as all those who have fallen before them.”In March this year, the British High Commissioner unveiled a memorial plaque at the British High Commission in honor of Khudadad Khan, the first South Asian and Muslim recipient of Britain’s highest military award, the Victoria Cross. Khudadad Khan was recognized for his actions during the First World War on 31 October 1914 at Hollebeke, Belgium.

پاکستان کے لیے برطانوی ہائی کمشنر فلپ بارٹن )کمپینین آف دی آرڈر آف سینٹ مائیکل اینڈ سینٹ جارج، آرڈر آف دی برٹش ایمپائر( نےآج ریممبرینس ڈے 2015 کے موقع پر ایک تقریب کی میزبانی کی۔ پاکستان آرمڈ سروسز کے ڈائریکٹر جنرل میڈیکل سروسز اور سرجن جنرل آف پاکستان لیفٹیننٹ جنرل عمران مجید نے تقریب میں شرکت کی۔
ریممبرینس ڈے کی تقریبات میں گیارہ نومبر کو صبح گیارہ بجے دو منٹ کی خاموشی بھی اختیار کی گئی۔ اسی وقت جنگِ عظیم اوّل کا اختتام ہوا تھا۔ اس کے بعد سفارتی حلقوں اور افواج کے نمائندوں کی جانب سے اپنے ملک کے دفاع کے لیے لڑتے ہوئے جان دینے والوں کی یاد میں پھولوں کی چادریں چڑھائ گئیں۔
لاہور کے بشپ، دی رائٹ ریورینڈ عرفان جمیل نے حافظ افتخار احمد کے ہمراہ تقریب کے فرائض انجام دیے۔ حوالدار محبوب اور فرنٹیئر فورس رجمنٹ کے بگلچیوں نے ترانے پیش کیے۔
برطانوی ہائی کمشنر نے اپنی تقریر کرتے ہوئے پاکستان میں جاری آپریشن ضربِ عضب میں قربانی دینے والوں کو بھی خراجِ تحسین پیش کیا۔
برطانوی ہائی کمشنر فلپ بارٹن نے ریممبرینس ڈے کی تقریب کے دوران خطاب کرتے ہوئے کہا:
“میں نے حال ہی میں پاکستان آرمی رجمنٹ کے مرکز، پنجاب رجمنٹ کا دورہ کیا، جہاں میرے نانا جان نے برٹش انڈیا میں اپنے طویل فوجی کیریئر کے دوران فرائض انجام دیے۔ میں نے دہشت گردی کے خلاف اپنے ملک کے دفاع میں جنگ لڑتے ہوئے جان قربان کرنے والے پاکستانی شہداء کے ساتھ ساتھ ماضی کی جنگوں میں شجاعت کا مظاہرہ کرکے وکٹوریہ کراس جیتنے والے دو سپاہیوں کی قبروں پر بھی پھولوں کی چادر چڑھائی۔”
“عین شباب میں اپنی جان قربان کرنے والے نوجوانوں کی قبر پر حاضری دینا بہت مشکل کام ہے۔ ان کو یاد کرنے کا یہی موقع ہے۔”
“دنیا بھر کی مسلّح افواج سے تعلق رکھنے والے مرد اور خواتین ایک مشترکہ مفاد کی بنیاد پر دوستی اوربھائی چارے کا آغاز کرچکے ہیں۔ اپنے فرائض کی انجام دہی اور مقاصد کے حصول میں انتہائی قربانی دینے کی ضرورت انہیں دیگر سرکاری ملازمین سے منفرد کرتی ہے ۔ سپاہیوں ، سیلرز اور ایئرمین کی یہ عالمی اخوت خطرے کے بارے میں مشترکہ سمجھ بوجھ کے باعث قوموں کے درمیان تقسیم کو پار کرتے ہوئے مزید مضبوط ہوجاتی ہے۔”
“مسلح افواج کے اس بھائی چارے میں زیادہ سے زیادہ ممالک کی شرکت کی وجہ دل کی گہریائی میں ہم سب کا مشترکہ مفاد ہے یعنی امن اور سلامتی۔ یہی جذبہ پاکستانی فوج کی جانب سے ضربِ عضب جیسی مہمات میں کی جانے والی زبردست کوششوں اور دی جانے والی قربانیوں کی پشت پر کار فرما ہے۔”
“مختصراً، ہم باری باری مختلف ممالک کی جانب سے اس قربانی کو خراجِ تحسین پیش کرنے کے لیے پھولوں کی چادر چڑھائینگے۔ ایسا کرتے ہوئے ہم سب دنیا بھر کی افواج کے دلیر سپاہیوں کو یاد کرتے ہیں جنہوں نے اپنی جانیں قربان کیں۔ رواں سال مارچ کے مہینے میں برطانوی ہائی کمشنر نے برطانوی ہائی کمیشن کی عمارت میں خداداد خان کے اعزاز میں یادگاری تختی کی تنصیب کی۔ خداداد خان اعلٰی ترین برطانوی فوجی اعزاز ، دی وکٹوریہ کراس حاصل کرنے والے جنوبی ایشیاء سے تعلق رکھنے والے پہلے مسلمان فوجی تھے۔ انہیں یہ اعزاز پہلی جنگِ عظیم کے دوران 31 اکتوبر 1914 کو ہولی بیک، بیلجیئم میں شجاعت کا مظاہرہ کرنے پر دیا گیا۔ مزید تفصیلات https://www.gov.uk/government/world-location-news/paving-stone-laid-for-pakistani-born-first-world-war-hero سے حاصل کی جاسکتی ہیں۔
