Islamabad- Pakistan has lodged a strong protest with Bangladesh over the unfortunate hanging of Motiur Rahman Nizami on the alleged crimes committed before December 1971 through a flawed judicial process. The Acting High Commissioner of Bangladesh was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was told that it was regretted that Bangladesh Government is maligning Pakistan, despite Islamabad’s sincere efforts to develop brotherly relations with Dhaka. He was told that the 1974 Tripartite Agreement is the cornerstone of relations between the two countries and as part of the Agreement, the Government of Bangladesh “decided not to proceed with the trials as an act of clemency.”It was said that Pakistan reiterates its desire for friendly relations with Bangladesh. Mean while Foreign Office Spokesperson Nafees Zakariya has said Pakistan has very strong collaboration with the United States in the context of counter terrorism. He was responding to a question at his weekly media briefing in Islamabad.The spokesperson said terrorism is a global issue and it should not be left on one country. He expressed the hope that the international community, especially the United States will continue its cooperation with Pakistan in fight against terrorism.Nafees Zakariya said Pakistan needs F-16 fighter jet, which will certainly enhance its capacity to eliminate the scourge of terrorism from the country.Responding to another question, he said Pakistan is ready for holding talks with India when the latter becomes ready.The spokesperson said dialogue is the best option to move forward in line with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s vision of having friendly relations with all the neighboring countries, including India. He said Pakistan would like to engage in a durable, sustained, and result oriented dialogue with India where all the issues of concerns from both sides are addressed amicably.Answering another question, he said Islamabad has decided to implement measures at Torkham to effectively manage the border and to monitor illegal border crossing. He said to differences over the measures to regulate the movements across the border, it has been temporarily closed. He said both sides are in contact through military to military channels to address this issue.He said the entire international community, including the countries of Quadrilateral Contact Group (QCG), comprising Pakistan, Afghanistan, the United States, and China, is trying to bring peace in Afghanistan.Responding to a query that Pakistan should not interfere in Bangladesh’s internal affairs as Islamabad had strongly condemned the hanging of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh leader Motiur Rehman, Nafees Zakariya said it is not an internal matter of Bangladesh. He said it is a flawed trial pertaining to the events took place before December 1971 and people like Motiur Rehman are being implicated for upholding the laws of Pakistan. He said we have also summoned charge de affairs of Bangladesh to register our concerns over the matter.Answering a question, he said Saudi Bin Laden Company has paid dues of 10,000 Pakistani workers and it has also agreed to facilitate Pakistani workers to transfer them to any new employer.
