True skill and class never fade, and our seasoned badminton stars have proven this truth on Canadian soil. At a time when sports headlines in Pakistan mostly revolve around cricket, a three-member Pakistani badminton squad quietly traveled to Kelowna, Canada and left the world champions in the dust. They performed brilliantly in the “Unisex Canadian Masters Badminton Championship 2026” and won two gold medals and a bronze medal. According to official information received directly, it was not an ordinary regional tournament, but a tough global competition in which more than 300 renowned players from all over the world, including Indonesia, India, the United States and the host country Canada, participated.
Mir Tahir Ishaq’s double podium record;
Pakistan’s joy was doubled when Former Pakistan’s national Badminton champion of Pakistan , winners of the World Masters Games ,Mir Tahir Ishaq delivered a memorable performance in the men’s singles (60+) final. Tahir Ishaq, who was seeded 3/4 in the tournament, won 20-22 and 14-21 after a tough match against Canada’s Terry Downton in the semi-finals. In the final, he faced top seed Sandro Rossi of the United States. Tahir Ishaq kept a firm grip on the match from the start and, thanks to his excellent drop shots and smashes, defeated the American player 12-21 and 19-21 to bring Pakistan its second gold medal. Tahir Ishaq’s journey of success did not end here. He paired with Naveed Haque in the 50+ men’s doubles and won the bronze medal by presenting an excellent game. In the quarterfinals, they defeated Canada’s David Grave and Bruce Pillau 15-21, 14-21, but lost 21-18, 17-21, 21-16 in a thrilling three-game semifinal. In the women’s singles (35+) category, Pakistan’s former national champion Palusha Bashir made history in the Masters circuit. Playing on this international stage for the first time, she defeated all her rivals until the final. In the final, she faced home favorite, Olympian and top seed Anna Rice of Canada. Palusha kept the pressure on her opponent with her excellent fitness, excellent court covering and excellent net play and won the gold medal in straight games in front of her home crowd. He proved that his determination is still young and he will continue to represent Pakistan in the open professional categories in the future. Other important results of the tournament Along with Pakistani players, players from the host country Canada also achieved great successes in the tournament. Chris Dore (Canada): He created history by winning a total of four gold medals in singles, doubles and mixed doubles in the 60+ and 65+ categories. Evan Jiang (Canada): He completed a hat-trick of three gold medals in different categories of 45+ and 50+. Ian Bishop (Canada): He won a total of three gold medals in all formats of the 75+ category. Sandro Rossi (USA): After losing the singles final to Tahir Ishaq, he made a spectacular comeback and won the gold medal in mixed doubles (60+)

Palwasha Bashir, Mir Tahir Ishaq and Naveed Haq have proven that if the determination is true, Pakistani players can fly the country’s flag in any corner of the world.
